Worst parts of Sonic Boom Rise Of Lyric
- Story Is A Huge Mess
The part that ruined the game for me the most was the horribly done story. The characters Sonic and Knuckles were terribly written and Knuckles being turned into a stupid oaf was just a bad choice.
The developers have stated that the game takes place in an alternate universe and that this is not the same Sonic cast but the game does nothing to point that out. When you make a new cannon you have to reintroduce characters otherwise their appearance make no sense. I can let the whole Sonic and Eggman are mortal enemies thing pass, but what about the others?
Why does Sonic's friends team up with him? Does Amy have a crush on Sonic like in other games? Why Metal Sonic? Why Shadow the hedgehog? It's never explained and comes off more as a sequel to the canon instead of an alternate universe like it's supposed to be.
- It's A Sonic Game
Yes this is a valid reason.
The Sonic universe has a wide variety of characters who on the most part could actually star in their own games! The reason they don't is because any problem in that universe has to be solved by Sonic. The Sonic roster is huge, almost as large as the Nintendo roster (not the Mario roster, but the whole of Nintendo roster of series combined), and for the most part can play extremely different from Sonic.
Lets take a look at Sonic Adventure, it had 6 playable characters, other than Tails and Amy which were just modified Sonic style gameplay, their are a total of 4 character play styles that could go on to have their own series (Even Big The Cat). The problem is that the developers won't give them their own games these days without Sonic.
I love Sonic but he's the reason the other characters don't get to shine on their own, and in the case of Sonic Boom Rise Of Lyric, I feel the game would of been infinitely better if it was Knuckles' Chaotic Rise Of Lyric.
Bad Parts Of Sonic Boom Rise Of Lyric
- The Game Was Way Too EasyGame difficulty doesn't ruin games for me, they can still be fun even if they are easy.
Sonic Boom was pretty easy with no real consequence for dying. It seems you just respawn after you dye which means it's the same as taking damage and losing rings removing the purpose of the rings. The puzzles where for the most part extremely easy and the game seemed like it was made for little kids less then 8 years of age, making the puzzles no fun for adults.
Good Parts
- 3 Of The 4 Playable Characters Were Well UsedEven though Knuckles was turned into a dunce he was still well used in the story and gameplay.
The only one of the 4 main characters that did not do much for the story and gameplay was Sonic. I'm basing this on what unique abilities they bring to the game and Sonic brings...Actually he bring trouble. He was the one that released Lyric because he suddenly became scared of battle, he got caught and killed by Lyric (apparently gameplay respawn rules apply for cut scenes), but was perfectly fine the next scene.
Sonic seems to only bring a spin dash and a homing move, and these obsticles could of been done by the others. They could work together to give tails some high to fly over the homing segments of Sonic or give Amy a boost for the spin dash segments.
Sonic is supposed to be faster then the others but doesn't even do that. This could of been easily fixed by switching to Sonic during the running segments and having the rest be pulled by the ender beam or something, but since they don't and just run along side him.
